TIMMS CHOSEN TO LEAD BELWOOD ELEMENTARY
The Gordon County Board of Education held a called meeting on Friday, April 28, where Justin Timms was approved as the principal of Belwood Elementary School, beginning in the 2017-18 school year. Timms’ appointment comes following the resignation of Chad Moore earlier in the month. “We are very excited to have Mr. Timms transition into this role in our district. I am confident he will continue to expand upon the tradition of excellence for which Belwood is known,” said Dr. Susan Remillard, Gordon County Schools’ Superintendent.
Timms is a native of Gordon County and an alumnus of Gordon Central High School. He began his teaching career at his alma mater before moving into administration as the assistant principal at Red Bud Elementary School. He later moved to Red Bud Middle, where he assisted in the opening of the new facility in 2014.
Timms is a graduate of Shorter College and holds graduate degrees in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University and Georgia College and State University. He is an active member of the community, where he has served on the board of directors for the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce, the Voluntary Action Center, and the United Way of Gordon County. He and his family are active members of Antioch Baptist Church. His professional recognitions include being named 2006 Gordon Central High School Inclusion Teacher of the Year, 2009 Gordon Central High School Teacher of the Year, and 2009 Gordon County Schools Teacher of the Year.
“Belwood Elementary has been building exceptional students in Gordon County for nearly a hundred years. I am humbled and appreciative of this opportunity. I look forward to joining the excellent faculty and students at Belwood. I am eager to get to work and excited about the future,” said Timms concerning his new endeavor.
Timms officially transitions into his new position on July 1.
